Merilynn Du Plessis holds a LLB Degree and is an admitted attorney with right of appearance in the High Court of South Africa, Gauteng Division, Pretoria. She further holds a certificate in commercial law through the University of Cape Town and has initiated studies in Company Secretarial Practice and/or Public Sector Governance through the Chartered Secretaries of Southern Africa.
Merilynn du Plessis is a senior associate attorney with more than 10 years’ experience in private practice. Merilynn started her career by doing 5 years of Practical legal training at Friedland Hart Solomon & Nicolson Attorneys in Pretoria and started her post-admission experience at MDT Attorneys in Midrand. She then joined Hahn & Hahn Attorneys in 2019 and now works alongside Jaco Hamman in providing clients with assistance mainly in the following areas but also in other various fields as requested by private clients:

Merilynn has assisted the Construction Industry Development Board with compliance, administration law and all matters relating to the Construction Industry Development Board and assists with various private clients with construction disputes, drafting and interpretation of contracts.

Merilynn assists Resellers such as Impact Meter Services with compliance, litigation and legal support in the Electricity Industry. Merilynn also assists entities such as Shoprite Checkers with matters relating to electricity disputes including disconnections, damages claims, assistance with tariff and billing related matters. Merilynn assists parties with actions against Municipalities and Eskom and also assists with implementing agreements between the landlords and tenants of commercial industries.

Merilynn assists various entities from, small, to large entities, relating to corporate and commercial related matters such as drafting and reviewing of agreements. Agreement examples are non-disclosure agreements, supply agreements, shareholder’s agreements, sale of share agreements, lease agreements, service agreements, supply agreements and service provider agreements.
Public Governance and/or Public Law
Merilynn assists governmental departments and other public bodies with services regarding legislative powers and functions and assisting with implementing their legislative mandates. Merilynn further assists legal persons with exercising their rights in the public sphere. An example of the type of services Merilynn renders are opinions on complex legal questions and litigation.
Privacy and Cyber Laws
Merilynn assists Organs of State and Companies with compliance with Privacy laws such as the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2012, the Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 200 and also helps parties defend or enforce privacy related claims. Examples of these services include Drafting of Policies, alignment of agreements, operator agreements, drafting PAIA Manuals, opinions on international privacy laws, assisting parties with incorporating privacy into their organization as a whole, drafting and assistance with Impact Assessments, Gap Analysis and all privacy related matters. Merilynn also assists clients with Cyber Laws and security breaches.
